Dr. Macolino joined Mt. Airy Pediatrics at the end of her training as a resident at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in 1996, where she also completed her internship. During her training she also did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, where she met her future husband. She traveled to Belize as part of a medical internship program in Central America. In 2008, she traveled with Mercy Ships to provide medical care for people in Honduras for 10 days. 

Susan has lived in the neighborhood since August 2001, when she came on board as Mt. Airy Pediatrics' first pediatric nurse practitioner. She has also enjoyed teaching PNP students at the University of Pennsylvania as a clinical faculty member and preceptor during her time here. In earlier stages of her professional life, Susan practiced as a PNP in Lancaster, PA, assisted in various children's-health-related projects in West Philadelphia while a nursing student, and served as a home visitor and drop-in group coordinator for adolescent mothers in Chicago.
