Our Providers

Please take a few moments to learn about our outstanding and skilled practitioners, and meet our knowledgeable, friendly, nurturing staff.

Our physicians and Nurse Practitioners are lifelong learners. Not only have they received advanced medical training in pediatrics, they continually pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest in child health care.

We thought this would be an excellent time to tell you a little more about the different kinds of Providers we have. A health care provider is most easily defined as a person who helps to identify, treat, and prevent illness. At Mt. Airy Pediatrics, P.C. we employ two different kinds of health care providers: Physicians (M.D.s) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs).

PHYSICIANS
Our physicians here at Mt. Airy Pediatrics, PC are MD Physicians. They complete their pre-medical requirements in college, then go on to attend a medical school for 4 years. Following med school, they do a residency in the specialty of their choice before going into practice.  MD Physicians are also required to renew their licensure by taking an exam every 7-10 years.

We're proud to have two wonderful board-certified physician on our team of Providers:

Dr. Marcie E. Macolino, MD

During her training she also did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, where she met her future husband. She traveled to Belize as part of a medical internship program in Central America. In 2008, she traveled with Mercy Ships to provide medical care for people in Honduras for 10 days. Dr. Macolino and her husband Jerry, a computer consultant, live in Germantown. She has 4 kids-Rachel the youngest is in high school.

In her free time, Dr. Macolino can be found drinking tea, enjoying Longwood Gardens, and reading.

NURSE PRACTITIONERS

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a provider who has completed academic work in nursing at both the Bachelor and Masters levels.  The Masters level coursework and clinical experience is focused in one specific field, for example, Pediatric Primary Care. Nurse Practitioners are then certified in their area of practice by a national accreditation group (ours by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board) as well as earning licensure through the State Board of Nursing.

After completing their education and certification, Nurse Practitioners are able to take histories, examine and treat acute and chronic problems, prescribe medications, and maintain long-term relationships with patients as a primary care provider managing their acute and well care. In Pennsylvania, NPs are required to work alongside physicians, but in some states they do practice independently in their area of certification.

We're proud to have two outstanding Nurse Practitioners on our team of Providers:

Susan W. Nordlof, MSN, CRNP

Education   Wheaton College, Bachelor of Arts, University of Pennsylvania, Bachelor of Science in Nursing University of Pennsylvania, Master of Science in Nursing

Susan has lived in the neighborhood since August 2001, when she came on board as Mt. Airy Pediatrics' first pediatric nurse practitioner. She has also enjoyed teaching PNP students at the University of Pennsylvania as a clinical faculty member and preceptor during her time here. In earlier stages of her professional life, Susan practiced as a PNP in Lancaster, PA, assisted in various children's-health-related projects in West Philadelphia while a nursing student, and served as a home visitor and drop-in group coordinator for adolescent mothers in Chicago.

Raised in Bucks County, PA, Susan has lived in Philadelphia most of the past 20 years and is the mother of two.  When not at work or at home, she can often be found at one of the neighborhood's ball fields, coffee shops, libraries, or community meetings. She lives in Mt. Airy with her husband and children .
