Upon your little one's arrival- Whether your baby is born at a local hospital or birthing center, simply tell your obstetrician, midwife and the hospital staff that you have chosen Mt. Airy Pediatrics P.C. as your child's pediatric care provider. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff. Upon discharge, please contact our office within 24 hours about scheduling your baby's first visit to our office.

Explore our Parent Resources section for some great tips on newborn care.

What to bring to your first visit:

MEDICAL RECORDS - For your newborn please bring any medical documents you received about your baby at discharge from their birth institution.

For all other patients, to help expedite the first appointment, we ask that you please arrange to have your child's medical records sent to us within 15 days of registering as a patient with us. If we have not received your child's previous records, your appointment will have to be rescheduled. You can print out a release form to have your records sent here using this link .

PROOF OF INSURANCE- ALL patients must bring proof of their medical insurance coverage, as well as any copays or deductibles due in order to be seen for their appointments. For a full list of the insurance carriers we have contracted with please click here .

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR NEWBORNS : In most cases your baby's medical bills while they are in the hospital will be covered through a parent's plan without any issues. However, care in our office is not covered in the same way, therefore it is imperative that you contact your employer and/or your health plan to notify them of your baby's arrival as soon as possible and before your first visit with us.

If you are covered by an HMO plan or a plan that requires that you select a PCP, please remember to request that your child be assigned to our office from their date of birth. Following these steps will help you avoid having services not covered by your insurance.
For commercial insurances: please notify your employer and call your insurance plan's member services department.
For Medicaid/CHIP (if the insured parent is covered by Keystone First, Health Partners or Aetna Better Health):
visit the PA Healthchoices webiste or call 1-800-440-3989

FORMS

We also ask that new patient families be prepared to complete paperwork regarding your family medical history, your child's medical history, and insurance information. Links to those forms are available at the end of this page if you would prefer to complete them ahead of time.

What to expect at your first visit

On the day of your child's first visit to our office, we recommend allowing extra time for finishing up any forms and ensuring you have plenty of time to get acquainted with our staff and office. We look forward to meeting you and joining with you to help your child grow well and remain healthy.

Our Appointment Policy

Our office policy is that each patient is assigned a "primary" provider with whom all well care visits and most sick/same day visits will be scheduled. This policy allows parents and patients to develop relationship with this clinician over the years. This consistency can be vital over the years as we help families navigate their children's health and development.  In certain specific situations, we may be able to accommodate a request to switch to another provider in the practice. Such requests would need to be approved by the Practice Manager as well as the clinician.

We work hard to ensure that all of your visits to our practice are a good experience. Our schedules are designed to allow both you and your physician or nurse practitioner time to examine your child and review any concerns you or they may have. We aim to respect the value of your time and see you promptly. As a courtesy, we attempt to confirm all prescheduled appointments by phone, text or email 24-48 hours prior to your scheduled time. Cancellations must be received within 24 hours. When an appointment is missed without cancellation, your account may be assessed a $20.00 No Show fee for the time that we were unable to utilize for patient care. In that case, please come prepared to take care of your account balance at your next appointment to avoid having to reschedule your appointment.

If you are more than 10 minutes late for a prescheduled well visit, we may have to ask you to reschedule for another day. For same day sick visits, we may have to ask you to wait until the next available opening in the day's schedule.

Vaccines at Mt. Airy Pediatrics P.C.

We firmly believe in the effectiveness of vaccines to prevent serious illness and to save lives. We firmly believe in the safety of our vaccines.

However we also recognize that the choice to vaccinate your child may be a very emotional one for some parents.

We will do everything we can to help you make an informed and objective decision about vaccinating according to the recommended schedule. However, should you have doubts, questions or additional concerns our physicians and nurse practitioners are always available to discuss them with you. We consider it our job to help alleviate your concerns and reservations about any health related issues, including the safety and efficacy of vaccines.

If your child has an upcoming appointment and is due for immunizations on that day, and you have concerns about the vaccines that you would like to discuss with your medical provider; please contact your pediatrician or nurse practitioner ahead of time using the Patient Portal . In order to be courteous to our other patients, we cannot plan to extend appointments to discuss vaccine concerns.
